Dear friends,

This was sent to you yesterday with the wrong zip code of the campaign mailing address.  I am resending it now with the correct one.  Best wishes.

Re: Together We Can Win This Election

Dear Friends and Supporters,

There are about 6 weeks left before Election Day and I am reaching out to you, my most trusted supporters, for your much needed help in this critical part of the race.

If campaigns were run solely based on ideas, merit and effort of the candidates, we would be reasonably ahead in the race to be the next representative of District 11. Unfortunately money runs politics.  From the beginning, we have been outspent, almost ten to one.  My campaign has relied solely on individual supporters – like you- who believe in a candidate that places the interests of District 11 ahead of those of partisanship and Special Interest money.  We have come a long way from finishing second in the primary election.  Our campaign now has a campaign manager.  Andrew Cross is a practicing attorney who took time off from his practice to join us.  The campaign is approaching full gear, but we have a long way to go to get our message across to as many voters as possible.

As we are heading into October, my calendar will be filled with “Meet & Greets,” candidate forums, and various speaking engagements.

But this is where your help is needed.  The district has over 528,000 registered voters and it is impossible for me to reach enough voters through speaking engagements alone.  We would like to reach them all through direct mailing.  The convention is that you need to do it at least twice before the election.  The reality is that we cannot afford to reach all of the voters, and cannot do it twice.  After much debate, we decided to do direct mailing only once, and only to “targeted” voters.  Our goal is to direct mail 130,000 postcards, size 5.5 X 8.5, on October 6, when the absentee ballots will be out.  “Targeted” means a list of voters “filtered and selected” from the general list of voters.

The estimated cost will be as follows:  Printing of 130,000, 5.5 x 8.5 postcards, printed color both sides, bundling and delivering to the Post Office: $8,474.00.

Postage: $31,000-$35,000 (.24 to .27 each postcard) check made to Postmaster.

Total:  $43,847.

As of today, September 24, 2014, the balance of our campaign account as reported by our campaign Treasurer is $45,535.00.  Once we pay the direct mailing our balance will be less than $2,000 with a month left before the general election date.  This is an extremely slim budget and only your support will keep the campaign running and help me to carry on until we reach victory because I strongly believe I can win.

I am not good at and do not enjoy asking for money.  But I have no support from the party establishment or Special Interest PACs.  You are my only source of support.  And if you are willing, please do not delay in sending your financial support.  Checks should be made to: judgephan4uscongress and mailed to P.O. Box 1687, Danville, CA 94526.

Please also pass on along this appeal to all your friends and families for their support.

Thank You and God Bless You All.

Your candidate,

Tue Phan
